OPRS Training Program

WOULD REPAIRING MORE PARTS IMPROVE YOUR CSI & PERFORMANCE METRICS?

IS A SHORTAGE OF SKILLED TECHNICIANS LIMITING YOUR PRODUCTION & THROUGHPUT?

BETAG’s Outer Panel Repair Specialist (OPRS) Program addresses these challenges by increasing technician capability & efficiency, to give body shops a competitive edge.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

WHY IS BETAG’S OPRS PROGRAM IMPORTANT?

There are 3 macro factors to consider:

  • Work mix in body shops has been steadily changing & non-structural outer panel repairs now account for >60% of the total
  • Significant advances in material technology and long-term erosion of technicians’ repair skills have favored panel replacement
  • Insurers put a high premium on repairing more panels (lower cost and faster throughput). BUT lack of skills and availability of parts have become a major drag

WHAT TANGIBLE BENEFITS DOES BETAG’S OPRS PROGRAM OFFER?

BETAG’s OPRS Program is an opportunity to:

  • Address the shortage of skilled technicians;
  • Increase throughput & gross margin;
  • Improve CSI (& exceed insurance PBAs where relevant); and
  • Create a competitive edge, to grow market share

HOW DOES BETAG’S OPRS PROGRAM ACHIEVE THAT?

BETAG’s OPRS Program turbocharges the skills of entry level technicians (‘C techs’) to create productive, more efficient (150%+) non-structural outer panel repair specialists.

This Means:

  • Master Technicians (‘A’ techs) can focus on the complex structural repairs demanding their knowledge & skills;
  • Reliance on new parts and the associated risk of delay can be reduced; and
  • Production capacity can be increased

MANAGED CAREER PATHWAY

BETAG’s OPRS Managed Career Pathway provides a clear roadmap for developing a comprehensive outer panel repair capability. 16 instructor led, workshop based training days are split into 4 blocks of 4-day learning phases, over 4 months.

The instructor led training is complemented by a Skill Development Practice Program that each student is asked to complete and report back on (approximately 1 hour per week). Results are kept under review by a BETAG trainer and used to provide personalized coaching tips for improvement.

ACCREDITATION

BETAG’s Outer Panel Repair Specialist Accreditation is awarded to technicians on successful completion of all elements of the training program and a formal skill assessment.

This is recognized with a BETAG OPRS plaque and individual completion certificates for each of the training course components.

Accreditations are maintained on BETAG’s eGuidance platform and, with the technician’s permission, will be accessible to repairers, OEMs and Insurance companies that recognize BETAG’s OPRS program.

Linking successful attainment of BETAG’s OPRS Accreditation to a skill development, pay & incentive scheme also creates opportunities for shops to attract and retain technicians in today’s competitive labor market.

RESOURCES & SUPPORT

BETAG offers a range of additional resources to technicians before, during and after the OPRS training program, which are intended to encourage continuous learning and create opportunity to ask for specific help or advice about outer panel repair.

REMOTE FEEDBACK & COACHING TIPS

Students are asked to complete and report back on their Skill Development Practice Program (approximately 1 hour per week). Results are kept under review by a BETAG trainer and used to provide personalized coaching tips for improvement.

BETAG LEARNING CENTER

BETAG’s Learning Center provides estimators and technicians with a simple means of accessing eModules; completion certificates; course reference manuals; and personal workbooks with notes taken during classes.

BETAG NORTH AMERICA FACEBOOK GROUP

BETAG NA operates a private Facebook Group for estimators and technicians who have attended training – which they are encouraged to use to communicate with each other and share successes, ideas, tips and tricks. BETAG’s trainers are also members of the group and on hand to answer questions about repair methods and equipment set up for outer panel repairs.

ASK OUR BETAG TRAINER

This provides technicians with an opportunity to arrange time with a BETAG Trainer to ask a question about damage analysis, repair methods or equipment set up for a specific repair.
