CCC Intelligent Solutions has launched “Intelligent Reinspection,” a new AI-powered product that the company says is designed to help auto insurers streamline the review of incoming repair facility estimates.

Intelligent Reinspection identifies areas for review and provides reason codes based on insurer rules to help reinspectors review increasingly complex estimates quickly, a CCC news release states.

CCC told Repairer Driven News increasing vehicle complexity requires advanced solutions to streamline the claims and repair process, such as its Intelligent Reinspection.

Reinspection “helps insurers by analyzing vehicle damage using advanced computer vision technology trained on hundreds of millions of images,” CCC said.

“The tool and AI models are regularly calibrated and updated to include data from newer model year vehicles and related repair estimate information and repair decisions.”

CCC believes the product “fosters better collaboration between insurers and repairers, helping to provide timely and accurate feedback without disrupting workflows, helping both save valuable time.”

CCC Chief Product and Technology Officer John Goodson added, “With CCC Intelligent Reinspection, AI helps insurers review repair estimates more quickly and transparently, allowing them to resolve questions with their repair partners. Our solution integrates seamlessly into existing insurer and repairer workflows, so estimates turn into completed repairs and claims can be resolved faster.”

When asked if the process is an AI version of an insurer’s change request, CCC responded that by using AI-powered analysis and audit capabilities CCC Intelligent Reinspection assesses incoming shop estimates and routes estimates for approval or review based on insurer-provided rules. Reviews are communicated back to the repair facility, as they are today, by human insurance reinspectors.

“When the insurance carrier reinspector shares its review of the estimate, areas for review are clearly marked as being outside of the specific insurer’s guidelines. Insurer estimate rules can be shared directly with [direct repair program] DRP shops through our Shared Guidelines solution in CCC One. Currently, many insurers utilize Shared Guidelines and thousands of repairers use it as estimates are being written. The process is similar to what exists today. The AI helps the reinspector speed up the review process.”

Reinspection can be used at any shop; not just those that are part of a DRP, CCC said.

CCC said its more than 300 AI models use computer vision, natural language understanding, and deep learning. Its AI has been developed over 10 years from more than $1 trillion in claims and repair-related transactions.

“This data includes data from final estimates created by tens of thousands of skilled repaired estimators,” CCC said. “These models are included in a number of AI-powered products that are configurable by our repair and insurance customers to meet the specific needs of their business.”

Goodson called Intelligent Reinspection a significant advancement in how repair estimates are managed between insurers and repairers.

“Our AI-powered solution makes it easy for estimates to be quickly reviewed so repairers can get to work faster,” he said. “Intelligent Reinspection is the latest in a line of intelligent, AI-driven solutions from CCC designed to save time and reduce inefficiencies in the increasingly complex claims and repair process, supporting our vision of shaping a world where life just works for our customers and theirs.”

RDN asked if CCC has an AI review tool that is, or may become available, to a repair facility to designate that an insurance-generated estimate fails to comply with OEM-established rule sets.

CCC said connecting millions of OEM procedures back to estimate lines is really complex but is something that could potentially be solved in the future using AI.

CCC was also recently recognized with a 2024 AI Breakthrough Award for “Best Overall Computer Vision Solution.”

In its seventh year, the annual awards program conducted by Tech Breakthrough recognizes the world’s most innovative companies, technologies, and products in the AI industry.

“CCC is honored to be acknowledged for our work in AI, specifically for computer vision. Our AI-powered solutions analyze and assess vehicle damage photos for any make and model, helping speed up the automotive claims and repair process,” said Goodson, in a news release.

“This award underscores our commitment to helping our customers deliver intelligent experiences and leveraging advanced AI to tackle industry challenges like labor shortages and increasing vehicle complexity.”

CCC introduced its first AI solution for vehicle damage assessment in 2013 and has since developed AI-powered solutions that have been adopted by more than 100 auto insurance companies and thousands of collision repair operators, according to the release.

“The auto insurance and collision repair industries are facing challenges that include workforce shortages, inflation, supply chain issues, increasing vehicle complexity, and rising consumer expectations. These factors have led to a significant increase in repairable, total loss, and casualty claim cycle times and costs,” said Steve Johansson, CCC AI Breakthrough managing director, in the release.

“CCC is tackling these challenges head-on. We’re proud to award them with ‘Best Overall Computer Vision Solution.’ With their proven AI and technology, CCC is driving the industry’s next evolution by helping companies make earlier decisions, streamline processes, and support teams facing labor shortages.”
